Rain as Red as Gold expresses the duality of community and isolation, of hope and despair, of grief and acceptance, of life and death, of war and peace - how these elements unfold in our lives as individuals and as a whole. In all of life's brevity, the most vibrant, beautiful, and fleeting moments of light shine through the overwhelming dark so long as we learn to observe, accept, and continue living. There is a frightening and harrowing beauty about this concept, especially as much of this music grew during the times of the pandemic in all of its incomparable impact on us as a whole. It's a realization of the collective sorrow of us all and how that collectiveness can also lead to collective healing and harmony.
Much of the sonic soul of this album was captured by the craft and ears of Bruce Horn at Outside Sound Studios. We are so grateful for his passion, patience, and belief in this album that kept us motivated and creative throughout it's creation.
We sincerely thank Mai Hindawi for her contribution to the album with her reading of "Nothing Gold Can Stay". She is an incredible artist and poet with much beautiful work of advocacy and expression! You can find Mai on Instagram at @intellectgrime.
Special thanks to our lovely friends on violin for bringing the track "You'll Always Stay" to life. It wouldn't be complete without their contribution.
"Through the window I heard the cry of bullets on a harvest night. I spoke to the gentlemen. To the innocent. Every hand was red. And all I could say was all I could bring. And all I can say was not enough."
"We’re still prayin' for prophets. Long lost in the night. Oh the look on their faces. Never knowing what I’ll find. But I’ll know when I find it."
"And I have fallen time and time again. Losing my battle. Fighting against myself. Till I found out what it means to live without. And I find out what it means to live."
